Behind on utility bills

Delinquent utility bills are 100% dischargeable in a chapter 7 bankruptcy case. If you have fallen behind on your electric bill or haven’t made the gas payments in a couple of months, a chapter 7 bankruptcy will discharge the delinquent bills and get you out of debt with your utility companies. They won’t shut your power off or stop you from receiving utilities going forward. The utility companies will simply open a new account for you with a zero balance effective the date of the bankruptcy filing. You will then only be responsible to pay the utility bills for services received after the date of your bankruptcy filing.
